Health Camp in Luwero District

Path for Health Uganda, in collaboration with Luwero Hospital and Mildmay, conducted a series of community outreach programs in selected hard-to-reach communities in Luwero District. The aim of these outreaches was to improve health outcomes and achieve universal health coverage through community-based primary healthcare approaches.

During the outreach programs, various activities were undertaken to engage the communities and promote health awareness. These activities included health education talks, peer-to-peer sessions for young people, dialogues with community leaders, and the distribution of information, education, and communication materials (IEC) as well as condoms for adults.

The community outreach efforts focused on improving access to integrated SRHR/HIV/GBV services and information for young people. It aimed to raise awareness about preventing teenage pregnancies, address the challenges of sexual and gender-based violence, and enhance young people’s knowledge of life planning skills to make informed decisions.

The services provided during the community outreach included HIV/AIDS testing and counseling, Safe Male Circumcision, HPV Vaccination, drug awareness exhibitions, family planning methods and sensitization, youth empowerment exhibitions, mortality, and pre-birth awareness, Hepatitis B screening, and cervical cancer screening.

Key outcomes of the outreach programs include:

  • Sensitization of 432 individuals on sexual and reproductive health and rights issues.
  • Support for 250 women in accessing family planning and contraceptive services.
  • Distribution of 1000 male condoms and 150 female condoms.
  • Sensitization of over 1,000 youths from selected schools on the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
  • Education and awareness on menstrual hygiene and management for 200 Adolescent Girls and young women.

Path for Health Uganda remains dedicated to improving health outcomes, promoting reproductive health rights, and addressing key health challenges in Luwero District.
